About Platform Alpha

Platform Alpha originated in the University of Abertay Dundee. It has been developed to maximise and grow the local economic development benefits arising from:

  • the success of the university’s portfolio of taught courses related to the video games industry, including Skillset accreditation,
  • the high reputation and significant outputs of
    Dare to be Digital,
  • opportunities in content development in mainstream video games, mobile content and converging broadcast / on-line spaces,
  • the generic innovation technologies embodied in White Space and existing collaborations with various partners, and
  • the emergence of an increasingly robust local cluster of business activity in the sector.

The intention is to use these benefits to address market failures in talent and IP generation in such a way as to contribute to the Scottish economy whilst further growing our UK and International status in this field. The value chains for the existing and emerging sectors associated with this project are global and the partnership building, investment and exploitation focus will be global through necessity too.

What’s in a name?

Platform Alpha is the working title chosen to reflect several characteristics of the project. The α Alpha symbolises Abertay, the Platform Agnostic focus, the Audience pull, the talent Attraction and the Added Value created.
