Operational Aspects
Platform Alpha represents an umbrella title for a number of different component parts that are described separately.
Underlying all three elements will be a focus on project specific funding - it is hoped to have a Project Development Fund that will operate at an earlier stage than the planned dedicated venture funding. This fund will help match other resources for initial project development and will be administered to a set of guidelines associated with a project management panel with internal and external membership. It is also planned to secure a pre-market fund to support academic and practitioner secondments in to various projects and this will be administered in conjunction with the Project Development Fund.
In this way, development teams that comprise students, recent graduates, practitioners and academics will come together to deliver specific projects. The hot-house project development environment in Alpha will be a dynamic and exciting centre of innovation that will become a magnet for talented individuals from the UK, Europe and Internationally.
A project management team will be recruited to oversee project evolution and delivery and manage the facility and funding use as well as building new partnerships. Partnerships are already being formed that will provide a flow of projects and channels for exploitation.
Projects could be in any area of digital media but it is likely that there will be a high focus on video games and interactive entertainment, 3D environments, 360 content for converging channels and innovative content that joins generic technology applications together to deliver new applications.
Our investment partners in the venture fund element of Alpha will provide interim management to projects either through the boards of individual start up opportunities or through licence portfolio management.
